Large Group Meeting

Unity in Community (UiC) invites you to join us for our quarterly Large Group Meeting on Saturday, June 28, at 10:00 AM at the Davidson United Methodist Church Chapel for a powerful and timely event, “How to Protest Well and Safely,” with special guest, founding UiC member Rev. Joel Simpson and Rev. Dr. Hanna R Broome.

Rev Joel Simpson
Joel Simpson is an ordained clergy person in the United Methodist Church. He is the pastor at First United Methodist Church in Taylorsville, NC. He grew up in Morganton, and most recently served as Associate Pastor at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius. He has partnered with various organizations such as the Poor People’s Campaign, Red Letter Christians, co-founder of Unity in Community of North Mecklenburg, and organized gatherings such a prayer vigils after Charlottesville in 2017 and the killing of George Floyd in 2020.
Rev. Dr. Hanna Broome

Rev. Dr. Hanna R. Broome is an ordained Elder in the A.M.E. Zion Church with degrees from the University of South Carolina–Upstate, Columbia International Seminary, and Drew Theological Seminary.

She previously pastored two AME Zion churches and served as a Presiding Elder. Currently, Dr. Broome is the Director of Religious Affairs for Repairers of the Breach and President of the NC Council of Churches. She’s also actively involved with the Poor People’s Campaign, NAACP, National Council of Negro Women, and Faith Leaders of Color Against the Death Penalty. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a mother of three sons with six grandchildren.
