The Color of Law Study
Staisha Hamilton and Joe Clifford will share their knowledge and perspectives on the effects of housing segregation on us as individuals and on our communities, and help us to acknowledge, understand and deal with the trauma and emotions that we may be feeling as we read The Color of Law

Ms. Staisha Hamilton is a Social Worker and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, currently employed as a Children’s Defense Team Social Worker at Perry Counseling Healing and Recovery in Charlotte. Staisha is also a trauma specialist, with a passion for advocacy and social justice, whose life experiences make her a zealous and effective advocate for the unheard. Staisha is a much welcomed return speaker after having joined us in October.

The Rev. Dr. Joseph J. Clifford serves as Pastor of the Myers Park Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. Joe also lives in the Myers Park neighborhood, a community built using “whites only” restrictive covenants. Joe’s passion for justice led him to serve on the board of Crossroads, a community development corporation focused on the Grier Heights neighborhood, where Crossroads seeks to develop affordable housing and to protect this historic community.

After listening to the speakers we will break out into small groups where individuals can share their experiences as well as responses to the book and the speakers.
