Topic: Creating the Other: Women, Race and Slavery in the Atlantic World

Dr. Dennie’s lively presentation will give participants a deeper understanding of black women’s historical challenges and their efforts to overcome them. 

This Speaker’s Series event will enrich our understanding as individuals and will enhance small group discussions. 

Dr. Dennie teaches “Women and Slavery in the Black Atlantic.” This class focuses on black and white women’s experiences during slavery in the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Dr. Dennie researches nineteenth- and twentieth-century black women’s history, with a particular emphasis on black feminist thought in the U.S. and the Caribbean.
